Prepared Childbirth
Education Class Options

In-Office Classes:

Through video presentation and discussion these classes will help expectant parents learn about and prepare for the birth of their baby and are tailored to the way our physicians practice! Our classes usually take place during the last trimester of pregnancy and meet in small groups of 5 to 6 couples.

The classes are taught by Melanie Martin, RN, CCE (Certified Childbirth Educator) with 20 years of experience on Labor and Delivery at St. Luke's Hospital Allentown campus. The best time to register is at 28 weeks of pregnancy. Call the office or you can email Melanie at

On-line eClasses:

Whether this is your 1st baby or your 4th, our online childbirth education class is ideal for those expectant parents who can’t attend an on-site childbirth education class due to work schedules, time constraints, or medical conditions.  Our on-line course is also a great refresher class!

The eight-chapter program is an interactive, web-based class that uses videos, personal birth stories, animations, activities, and games to teach all the essential information parents need to know to prepare for their birth.

Your eClass registration includes:

  • Online access for 60 days
  • One on-site labor rehearsal class

Both formats of our childbirth education classes can help you prepare for labor and birth through a variety of ways:

  • Understand pregnancy – how your pregnancy affects your body and normal discomforts that can occur, exercise, the advantages of a well-balanced diet and much more

  • Learn about labor and birth – learn about the stages and phases of labor and identify the signs and symptoms of labor

  • Understand pain management in labor – you’ll learn about breathing and relaxation techniques along with medications (like epidurals) to aid in pain management

  • Learn about medical interventions and how they can influence your labor course
