What are STDs?

STDs are infections transmitted during sexual contact. In rare circumstances, STDs can pass from mother to baby during birth or breastfeeding. Blood-borne STDs like HIV can also be passed through shared needle use.

Do I need to have STD testing?

Do I need HPV testing?

Some women need an HPV test as part of their STD testing. The HPV test requires a small cell sample from your cervix, so it’s often done along with a Pap smear to make it more convenient for you. HPV testing generally starts at age 30, and if you have Pap smear co-testing you may only need the test every five years.
